back against the wall字面意義「背靠著牆壁」則用來比喻「陷入絕境」。
俚語/慣用語
很多俚語用法不說可能很難從字面上看出其含意。
例如
說某人是turkey「火雞」原來是在罵人「不中用;很討厭」。
cough sth. up「把某物咳出來」在俚語中是指「勉強說出(某事)或交出(某物)」。
